Being A Grateful Leader – Day Five

One of the influences behind Leading With Nice is a social entrepreneur, Bill Strickland. He wrote a book, Make the Impossible Possible, where he tells the story of how the non-profit he founded, The Manchester Bidwell Corporation, came to be. It’s a great example of gratitude in practice.

Good day and welcome to the leading with nice daily. My name is Mathieu Yuill in this week we’re looking at leadership gratitude. Today I want to tell you about a book that I read that it is not about gratitude specifically, but I’m going to encourage you to pick it up and give it a read because I think this attitude, this culture of gratitude, the author had really made the difference in him finding success and the organization he led finding success. And the book is called “Make The Impossible Possible” and it’s by bill Strickland who recently just retired. But up until 2018 he led the Manchester Bidwell Corporation, which is a nonprofit in Pittsburgh that mostly was a training center, but it did a lot more than that. It had a recording studio. And the reason why I recommend you read it, to get inspired to understand a culture of gratitude is that bill Strickland, in his efforts for building the nonprofit always was grateful for whoever came along, cross his path and could help or could offer ideas or just had an attitude of wanting to be helpful. And it was this attitude of gratitude that I think really helped. And the Manchester Bidwell become nationally recognized.

You know, he was on President Barack Obama’s team, I forget his exact role, but he was singled out to help in a certain area. And it was this attitude that always espoused gratefulness that really inspired me in my philosophy behind building, leading with nice. So that’s all for this week. We’ll have a new topic next week. I hope you learned a bit about and gratitude as a leader from on this topic, visit leadingwithnice.com where we want to help you inspire others, build loyalty, talk to you on Monday.
